PONTIFICAL MISSIONARY CHILDREN (PMC)
The Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPC), established by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) in 1988, aims to raise awareness and empower individuals, communities, and the nation on justice, peace, human rights, and development, all in line with the Gospel and Catholic social teachings.
Membership is open to baptized Catholics who are morally upright, committed to justice, courageous in defending truth, non-judgmental, and demonstrate integrity.
Members must be God-fearing and willing to suffer for justice, particularly in defending the poor, weak, and oppressed.
Activities include:
- Empowering Small Christian Communities (SCCs) with knowledge of peace and justice.
- Providing civil education through workshops and training on human dignity, reconciliation, and good governance.
- Facilitating reconciliation in conflict situations and networking with like-minded organizations to promote human rights.
- Promoting responsible citizenship, voter education, and monitoring elections.
- Supporting the needy and ensuring peace and security within SCCs and local neighborhoods.
- Leading social responsibility campaigns based on Catholic social teachings, such as the Lenten Campaign.
Faith Formation is achieved through seminars, retreats, and efforts to mobilize parishioners to respond to social responsibilities as outlined in Church teachings.
Recruitment occurs through nomination or election from SCCs, ecclesial groups, and religious institutions at the local church level.
